Mad dogs

The dog got his passport today. The process started on December 16th with his rabies jab and boosters for the other canine diseases. He had his blood test on 6th Feb and and results came through on 17th Feb. Very straight forward process by Waterloo House Veterinary Centre based in Swadlincote. It cost £145, including the chip, which is very reasonable given the guidance I have been able to find on the web. The most expensive element was the blood test at £85.

Now to book the cross channel ferry for the summer, Norfolk Line have a deal at £74 plus £30 for the dog. But none of the ferry companies allow the dog to leave the car. Travelling Eurotunnel means you can stay in the car with the dog but it is much more expensive. The £30 dog fee seems pretty standard for all the channel crossings.

We have not taken a dog to Europe before so the palaver of the return will be interesting. We have booked a place to stay half an hour from the ferry. We understand they can arrange the veterinary treatment needed for the return, an injection against tape worm and some anti-tick treatment. Our vet is genuinely concerned about the potential harm from these ticks (or more precisely from the diseases/parasites they have ingested) should they get across the Channel.
